TYRE SHOPS in KARDJALI BULGARIA
There are many places where you can buy tyres from. Generally I have found that the price of tyres in Bulgaria costs far more than the price of tyres in the UK!We hunted around all the tyre shops in Kardjali, being quoted anything from 280 leva per tyre upto 350 leva per tyre!
The tyres on the Toyota Hilux Surf are on after market wheels that are not standard size. The tyres proved very difficult to locate.
We stopped at the tyre shop pictured here and they hunted around for the correct tyres for my Hilux!
After a couple of weeks, I passed the tyre shop and they saw me and indicated that they had my tyres in!
UPDATE: alas i have since found out that the tyres for me 4x4 Hilux were 90% offroad tyres and perform extremely bad on asphalt tarmac roads!
One tyre burst on a small rock while driving offroad, I bought a 'new' tyre from the shop and drove the 20kms or so home, the following day i again went out for a drive, however the jeep seemed to be rocking and on further investigation of the new tyre, i noticed it had a huge bump in it.
Driving slowly back to the tyre shop after a mere 40-50 kms with the new tyre, they offered to send it to Sofia for checking if it was defect.
The tyre appeared back at the shop, well it was dumped behind the shop. They insisted they had sent it to Sofia for investigation, however they also informed me that I had damaged the tyre and had made seven small holes in the tyre which happened to be in exactly the same place on the tyre.
They wanted another 150 leva (discounted price) for a 'new' tyre, it was also pointed out to me that these new tyres were in fact remould tyres.
I went further along the road where another tyre man sold me a tyre, used, for 10 leva.
After they had hunted for so long and finally located the correct tyres for the Toyota, I had a feeling they maybe rather expensive. Nope, for the two tyres fitted, the final cost was 320 leva. Although my tyres are on the rather large size, they cost less than my friends tyres which were smaller than mine!
The guys who fitted the tyres had good sense of humour and the lady owner of the shop was very jovial.
When the tyres were being fitted, there was a problem trying to get the air to blow up the tyre, after some jiggling around the tyres were on the rims and speedily on the car.
I had requested they put the two tyres from the back onto the front and the new tyres onto the back, which they did at no extra cost!
They put back my tools neatly into the back of the Jeep and with a toot toot, we were off motoring again with our lovely chunky tyres!
Now we get waved at each time we pass the tyre shop!

As you can see, our old tyres were rather worn, the tracking was out before we left the UK, we had the car tracked but by then the tyres had worn on the outer edge and looking rather illegal! The new tyres are very chunky with lots of tread left in them!

However these 90% Offroad tyres do not perform well on the road, in wet conditions and in snow conditions the were next to useless as the huge truck skated around unable to get a grip on the road!
As a female driver, with zero knowledge of tyres and tyre treads required for certain driving conditions, I was unaware these were remoulds of the worse possible dangerous kind.
I have since found a little one man band who has sold me Toyo all country tyres, they are worn, he informed me they are worn and should be replaced soon, however these Toyo's have got me and my Toyota 4x4 back on the road motoring and the car is motoring extremely well and has a grip on things now!
