Autobahns Slovenia, Croatia & Serbia
Again we blinked our eyes and missed Slovenia!
Croatia was inviting and very friendly but if you can, give Serbia a wide berth! Go Home English seems to be their motto

a journey taken in a Toyota Hilux Surf 2.4 TD with a 26ft caravan in tow!
GIVE SERBIA A WIDE BERTH!
Our journey throo Slovenia and Croatia went very smoothly, then we literally hit Serbia. At the border we were ordered to go back home! We were ordered to turn the Hilux towing the huge caravan around and that we were not entitled to cross throo Serbia!
After turning around with great difficulty, we reapproached the border and insisted that we were entitled to pass throo. We were made to pay 150 euro for their own green card, even though our English UK insurance covered Serbia, before being allowed to enter Serbia. The border official kept my passport until I provided proof that I had their green card which is available to buy in a little hut behind the border entrance.

We had to do a U-turn at the border of Serbia with our Hilux Surf towing the 26ft caravan!

If we hadn't have met Llilja owner of Lady Trans transport service Serbia, we would never have stopped for the night in this unwelcoming country!

Our UK to Bulgaria trip would have been so much nicer without Serbia being in our way!
But there is a happy smiley face ending!

Lady Trans Serbia!
Llilja Milosavljevic
and her Lady Trans vans, our new found Serbian friends welcomed us to our first night in Serbia
The road signs in Croatia and Serbia were very good, there were a lot of road works and although not much traffic (not surprising if everyone is turned back at the borders!) we had to navigate throo the road works very carefully and slowly especially as the camber of the road changed quite drastically. But it was lovely to see a happy smiley face on one of the road signs just before the road works began!

Photos far left - the countdown and road markings to the next pitt stop were very well marked and the entrance into the service stations were very easy to use

At each service station along the way, plenty of parking for cars and larger vehicles were provided and the service stations offered a friendly, peaceful atmosphere

The road works were controlled by this man in the central reservation of the main autobahn!
Quite a few of the fields were ablaze as we travelled along our journey to Bulgaria!
Next time, if there ever is a next time, I would never travel throo Serbia again, I'm hoping that the roads in Romania have been built so we can travel  throo Romania instead!
